What is Psychological Trauma or PTSD?

There is a lot of subjectivity as to what is overwhelming between individuals. What may be traumatic to one person may not be traumatic to another, this is due to a number of factors such as individual resilience, individual meanings placed on situations, level of support after the event, the felt level of helplessness at the time, the level of betrayal in the experience (being abused by a friend/ family member for example) , sudden loss and as well as other factors. A person who has suffered trauma often experience emotional symptoms, such as: Feelings of hopelessness, depression and anxiety, confusion and difficulties regulating emotions.
